Marginal regeneration-induced drainage of surface bubbles
نویسندگان
چکیده
When a soap film drains, marginal regeneration refers to the rise of patches that are thinner than rest film. In this work velocities and sizes buoyant measured found be in good agreement with Rayleigh-Taylor like instability model based on balance gravitational surface viscous forces, as suggested literature. Thus, an environment saturated humidity, eliminate evaporation effects, approximately describes drainage at apex draining bubble.

Film drainage and the lifetime of bubbles
[1] We present the results of new laboratory experiments that provide constraints on inter bubble film thinning and bubble coalescence as a consequence of liquid expulsion by gravitational and capillary forces. To ensure dynamic similarity to magmatic systems, the experiments are at small Reynolds numbers Re 1 ð Þ and cover a wide range of Bond numbers (10 3 Bo 10). Results indicate that at Bo<...
متن کاملSurface nanobubbles or Knudsen bubbles?
The mysterious stability of nanobubbles on surfaces is a puzzle baffling soft matter and colloid scientists. Bubbles inside a fluid tend to be spherical, but surface bubbles have the appearance of blisters with typical widths of 1000 nanometers (nm) and heights of 20 nm. The existence of surface bubbles was proposed to explain the extremely long range and the magnitude of the strongly attractiv...
متن کاملGrowth of Energy in Minimal Surface Bubbles
This article is concerned with developing tools for investigating harmonic maps f : Σ→M from a closed Riemann surface Σ into a compact manifold M of dimension at least three, using a perturbative approach based upon the α-energy of Sacks and Uhlenbeck. We present a replacement procedure for α-harmonic maps which is similar to one that has been used for harmonic maps, and show how it can be used...
متن کاملNonspherical laser-induced cavitation bubbles.
The generation of arbitrarily shaped nonspherical laser-induced cavitation bubbles is demonstrated with a optical technique. The nonspherical bubbles are formed using laser intensity patterns shaped by a spatial light modulator using linear absorption inside a liquid gap with a thickness of 40 microm. In particular we demonstrate the dynamics of elliptic, toroidal, square, and V-shaped bubbles....
متن کاملEnergy Growth in Minimal Surface Bubbles
This article is concerned with conformal harmonic maps f : Σ → M from a closed connected surface Σ into a compact Riemannian manifoldM of dimension at least four, studied via a perturbative approach based upon the α-energy of Sacks and Uhlenbeck. It gives an estimate on the rate of growth of energy density in the bubbles of minimax α-energy critical points as α→ 1, when the bubbles are at a dis...
